Extended School Activities

Home A-Z Contents List Back to Out & About

A considerable number of Extended School and extra curricular activities are organised at various times the school during the year.  These include: Cross Country Running, Football, Gymnastics, Hockey, Music, Netball, Recorders, Street Dance and a variety of other activities on a rolling programme.  Where such activities take place after school they will not be cancelled unless notification has been given in writing.  In order to ensure the safety of the children on their journey home we ask that those who do not attend an activity for which they have been registered bring written notice of this in advance.  After school 'Extended School' activities are organised in three seven week blocks in the Autumn, Spring and Summer.

Below is information about some of the activities which are likely to be running:
Art Run by Miss Howsam - develops art experiences and skills
Cross Country Run by Mrs Lynam.  It develops strength, stamina and running technique.  This activity takes place after school and is part of our seven week blocks.
Film Club Run by Mrs Lee.  This activity runs fortnightly where possible and has its own webpage on our website - please see the Film Club page
Senior Football Run by Mr George, a qualified FA coach and usually assisted by Mr Hyde (a fully qualified Wolves supporter).  This is, broadly, a 'squad' session.  This activity takes place after school and is part of our seven week blocks.
Dance Fitness Run by Miss Freshwater. This activity takes place after school and is part of our seven week blocks.
Netball Run by Mrs Cole.  It develops netball skills and strategies.  This activity takes place after school and is part of our seven week blocks.
Guitar This is run by local guitar teacher Jon Newby.  There is a charge for this activity which is set by, and paid directly to, Mr Newby.  It is open to children in Years 3-6.  It takes place in school hours and is not part of our seven week blocks.
Recorders Run at lunchtime by various members of staff and aimed at different ability groups.  There are groups available for children from Year 3 onwards.
Violin Run by the peripatetic music service - there is a charge for this activity which is dependent upon the number of pupils undertaking the lessons.  The cost is set for the full year and there is a commitment to continue with tuition from September through to July.  Violin tuition is open to children in Years 3-6.  It takes place in school hours and is not part of our seven week blocks.

Please note that not all of these activities run throughout the year.  If any child wishes to take part in one of the above activities we require written consent.  Some are only open to certain year groups and numbers are limited in all activities - please speak to the member of staff listed for full details.  If you are able to volunteer help with any 'club' activities we would be very interested to hear from you!

Allocation of places:
Planned activities for each term are notified before they commence and the date by which applications should be in school is stated.  In the event of oversubscription for any activity the following criteria will apply:

1. Only applications before the deadline will be considered

2. Year Group:
a. First allocation will be to the OLDEST year group eligible
b. Second allocation will be to the SECOND OLDEST year group eligible
c. Third allocation will be to the THIRD OLDEST year group eligible (etc)
d. This will continue until the year group which overfills the activity

3. Day of application
Within the year group which fills the activity places:
a. First allocation will be to those who submitted their application on the first possible date (beginning at 9.15am on the day after the letters are given out to avoid those who travel by bus being discriminated against)
b. Second allocation will be to those who submitted their application on the next possible date
c. This will continue until the date of submission which overfills the activity

4. Draw
Within the date of submission in question places will be allocated on the basis of a draw (more than one member of staff present)

Later applications can, of course, be considered for any activity which was undersubscribed.  Any acceptance of pupils over the stated maximum will be at the discretion of the member of staff running the activity (not the headteacher).  Activities will be cancelled if undersubscribed.

If, at the point of intially booking a place in any activity within the seven week blocks, you are already aware that your child will unavoidably be unable to attend a session you will be charged for the sessions attended ONLY as long as this is CLEARLY STATED ON THE FORM SUBMITTED TO REQUEST A PLACE.
